Cookie Policy

How TextCompare uses browser storage, Google Analytics cookies, and Cloudflare security cookies.

Current status

TextCompare has no accounts or advertising. It uses Google Analytics 4 to measure visits and interactions. The core tools continue to process your content locally and do not need Analytics cookies in order to work.

Google Analytics cookies

Google Analytics loads automatically on public pages and sets first-party cookies on the TextCompare domain. _ga distinguishes browsers and _ga_<container-id> preserves session state. Google documents a default expiration of two years for both cookies; later visits may refresh that period.

Analytics may measure page views, traffic sources, approximate location, browser and device characteristics, and public-site interactions. It does not receive the text, code, files, images, or comparison results handled inside the browser-only tools. Google handles analytics information under its own Privacy Policy.

localStorage preferences

The site uses your browser's localStorage to remember small preferences on your device, including theme, comparison options, view mode, and granularity. localStorage is not automatically attached to network requests and is not used by TextCompare for cross-site tracking.

You can remove these preferences through your browser's site-data settings. The tools will return to their defaults.

Temporary sessionStorage transfer

When you choose to move detected JSON, XML, or SQL from the home page to a dedicated tool, both inputs are stored temporarily in the current tab's sessionStorage. The content is never put in the URL, is removed as soon as the destination reads it, and expires after 60 seconds.

Strictly necessary Cloudflare cookies

Cloudflare delivers and protects the static site. During a security challenge, abuse response, or similar infrastructure operation, Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary temporary cookie. Such a cookie is controlled by Cloudflare for security and is not used by TextCompare for advertising or analytics.

No custom consent banner

TextCompare currently loads Google Analytics without displaying a custom consent banner. Browser Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals do not automatically disable Analytics. The operator does not use Analytics data for advertising, sale of personal information, or cross-context behavioral advertising.

Managing and removing cookies

You can block or delete _ga and _ga_<container-id> through your browser's site-data or privacy controls. You can also use Google's Analytics opt-out add-on. Blocking Analytics does not prevent the core tools from working. If the site later adds advertising or another tracking provider, this policy will be updated in the same release.
